Which is best? Bushing or bearing?

    We are trying to evaluate two printing presses and one has the
    cylinders mounted with bronze bushings and the other with tapered
    roller bearings.
    One manufacturer claims the bushings provide a superior support for the
    cylinders and thus provide a better contact between the two cylinders
    and a better print. The other claims that the roller bearings are just
    as good for support and there is no difference in print quality.

    Can you advise which is technically correct and which solution should
    provide the greatest reliability over a 10 year span with the presses
    operating at speeds of 10 to 17 thousand revolutions per hour. We know
    that fundamentally both machines will print.

    If someone can take the time to comment on this I will be greatly
    appreciative.

    I think the tapered roller bearing design is better because it is a frictionless movement. Good lubrication is critical for long life in either case.
