I agree with most of what you say about mass transit being inefficient.   However, I'm not convinced that nuclear generation of electricity is the answer, or that an individual actress in a rather timely movie had much to do with why there aren't more nukes.  As to the public fear factor, I think more credit should go to Chernobyl and Three Mile ...
