• Wind Power: A critical look

The following is from: David Pristash If you are here on this forum, then you are probably an engineer or technical person like me and are interested in technical issues. Over the past six years or more I have worked exclusively on energy related projects. But I got into energy seriously after CWRU sponsored the ...

  • Which is best? Bushing or bearing?

We are trying to evaluate two printing presses and one has thecylinders mounted with bronze bushings and the other with taperedroller bearings. One manufacturer claims the bushings provide a superior support for thecylinders and thus provide a better contact between the two cylindersand a better print. The other claims that the roller bearings are ...

  • Re: Inventor question: FEA

Mike, There are two versions of Inventor that will allow you to do the type of analysis that you are looking for. The first, Autodesk Inventor Simulation Suite has both dynamic simulation and analysis tools which allow users to not only query the structural properties of their designs, but also to analyze at a much higher level, ...

  • Re: On lying with statistics

Rshaper: Mr. Teschler got the underlying fact correct: mankind's contribution to the annual production of CO2 is roughly 3.5-5%. Hundreds of gigatons of CO2 are pumped into the atmosphere by natural sources, and they account for the remaining 95% or so. Check: http://www.radix.net/~bobg/faqs/scq.CO2rise.html

  • The glamour of engineering - 3-9-2006

Just out of curiousity, did those of you who say they got into engineering for the thrill of inventing and being involved in high-level, well-funded projects actually get into such projects? Or did you spend the first 20 years re-engineering bolts and gaskets for diaper pails or writing millions of lines of code for a barcode system in a pet-food ...

  • Clutchless manual transmissions

Show me the metrics, to paraphrase a certain wacky actor. What kind of mileage improvement can you get over the long haul when driving a manual rather than an automatic? 1%? 10%? Does this saving stay the same when comparing city and highway driving? And don't you have to (eventually) pay for the wear and tear on the clutch?I just get the feeling ...

  • Clutchless manual transmissions

Are clutchless ''manual'' transmissions the next best thing to sliced bread or an expensive but worthless option on today's cars?

  • Clutchless manual transmissions

Re: Shiftless manual transmissions1. Need for uniform direction for upshifts. Most manufacturers use a gate adjacent to ''D'' with forward-aft motion; however, there is absolutely no uniformity as to whether upshifts are accomplished by moving the shift lever forward or aft. This is a real problem if you drive more than one car with this ...
